Amberjack

The Amberjack is sought after by sport fishermen because it strikes fast, fights hard and often dives for the bottom. When one amberjack is brought to the boat, others frequently follow it to the surface. They average about 20 pounds, but can weigh in at more than 170 pounds.

• State Record: 115 pounds and 66.5 inches; 1994. (Source: Texas Parks and Wildlife)
• Habitat: Amberjacks live primarily near structures, such as artificial reefs and oil rigs.
